History Channel Films  TV series ‘Vikings’  at Powerscourt Waterfall

Powerscourt, the highest waterfall in Ireland is to feature in ‘Vikings’, a new TV series on the History Channel. Filming recently took place over three days at Powerscourt Waterfall and Estate, one of Ireland’s premier tourism attractions.

Vikings will be a series high on adventure, exploration and warfare, but at its heart, it will also be a family saga.  It follows the adventures of Ragnar Lathbork, a historical figure, and the greatest hero of his age, as he rises to become King of the Viking tribes.

The stellar cast includes Travis Fimmel (The Beast, Baytown Outlaws) as Ragnar and Clive Standen (Camelot, Robin Hood) as Rollo, Ragnar’s excessive, cruel cousin. Fans of County Wicklow local Gabriel Byrne (In Treatment, Usual Suspects) will be delighted to see him play Earl Haraldson, the most important local ruler in Ragnar’s district. Jessalyn Gilsig (Glee, Heroes, CSI) stars as Siggy, Earl Haraldson’s beautiful wife. Vikings is created and written by Michael Hirst – one of the best historical story-tellers in the film industry (The Tudors, Academy-Award winning film Elizabeth).
